|HERSHEL HOUSE WOODBURY STYLE CAMP KNIFE|
Maybe a bit large for a neck knife. This Woodbury style blade would make a good patch cutter, bag or camp knife. Forged from a piece of hay rake tine, tempered tough and limber. Three quarter tang. Key deer crown handle, a comfortable three finger grip. Poured pewter collar. Sterling silver end cap engraved with the hunting star for good luck. Blade is 3 9/16" and the knife is 6 5/8" overall.
|Civil War-Blue & Grey commemorative Powder Horn|
Thank you for reviewing Scrimshaw Powder Horns by YOSEF. The powder horn shown is from my Civil War series powder horns. This is a powder horn for those who collect Civil war memorabilia . It was inspired by a Civil War Ballad, "Two Brothers" I have incorporated the entire ballad in a scroll on side two. So that you can get the feel of what I am trying to convey I am going to include the entire ballad and I will go from there:
TWO BROTHERS ON THEIR WAY
ONE WORE BLUE AND ONE WORE GREY
AS THEY MARCHED ALONG THEIR WAY
THE FIFE AND DRUM BEGAN TO PLAY
ONE WAS GENTLE, ONE WAS KIND
CANNONBALL DON'T PAY NO MIND
IF YOUR GENTLE OR IF YOUR KIND
IT DON'T THINK OF THE FOLKS BEHIND
HERE ON A BEAUTIFUL MORNING
TWO GIRLS WAITING BY THE RAILROAD TRACKS
FOR THEIR LOVED ONES TO COME BACK
ONE WORE BLUE AND ONE WORE BLACK
ALL ON A BEAUTIFUL MORNING.
Quite a story, I know it got to me while I was working on it. Like all my powder horns I gave this one a lot of thought. It is tough to get a story like this on a powder horn. I have already described Side 2 with the scroll and ballad. Side 1 was a challenge, I decided to use a typical Union soldier on the top a drummer boy in the middle and a typical Confederate soldier under the drummer. I looked through what seemed to be thousands of pictures, painting, ETC and these are my composites of what I felt was the typical. soldiers.
This powder horn will be offered on a very limited basis only because it takes a horn 16 inches or larger and they are becoming harder and harder to get. This one is close to 17”
For those of you who are not familiar with my work. I have been engraving powder horns for over 15 years for, historical societies and collectors all over the world. Most of my requests are for the French and Indian War, Revolutionary War and the Civil War, I offer many other themes from Nautical to Western themes. I work in the period from about 1720 to about 1865. All my work starts out in pen and ink drawing that I usually take from period art. All my drawing are drawn in my style to reflect the period I am working in. All my powder horns are skillfully build from select cow horns by one of the US’s premier powder horn builders, John Shorb. .
For purchase or information I can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org or if you chose I would be more then happy to talk to you at 816-304-8087. Upon your request I will send you more information or pictures of the powder horn being offered. I can also provide you a quote for a custom horn. About 90% of the powder horns I create are custom orders.
I am looking forward to hear from you…….YOSEF
